aaaCulture Shock

On behalf of the Asian American Alliance at Columbia University, we would like to invite you our annual culture and fashion show, cultureSHOCK, on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 7:30 PM in Lerner Hall, Roone Arledge Auditorium on 115th Street & Broadway (take the 1 to 116th St).

This year, our theme is Lost & Found, which signifies the important and continual search and acceptance of the Asian American identity through the manifestation of the arts, fashion, music, dance, song, spoken word, comedy, and video skits that pervades through American culture. During cultureSHOCK, we will provide a platform for Asian American performing artists, fashion designers, and the AAA board itself to recapture and redefine this lost identity in this annual celebration. Most importantly, for the first time, our proceeds from cultureSHOCK will be donated to CACF, the Coalition for Asian American Children & Families, a pan-Asian children’s advocacy organization, which aims to improve the health and well-being of Asian Pacific American children and families in the New York City area.

Saturday night will be a fun-filled event starring nationally acclaimed Asian American performers, including Magnetic North, ABDC’s Fr3sh, Def Jam Poets’ Yellow Rage, Jen Kwok, Project D, Comedy Central comedian Eliot Chang, and Alice Hu. After the show, all the performers (including ABDC’s original 7 in Fr3sh) will be present for pictures, CD signings as well as buying merchandise!

We will also have a full-fledged fashion show which showcases Fashion Week regulars, Nicole Miller, Milly by Michelle Smith, Twinkle by Wenlan Chia, Sueli Costa swimwear, as well as Asian American designers, including Shin Choiand FIT student designer Ninh Nguyen, with Shanghai Tang, the first fashion house out of China, and shoes provided byManolo Blahnik!

To make the night even more exciting, we will also have FREE RedBull all night and raffling off a Michael Kors and Tory Burch bag, a Kaplan course, as well as 2 pairs of NJ Nets tickets!
