Have a special talent? Want to perform in front of a crowd of over 600 people?
Now’s your chance to get your act together and get exposed.
The Asian American Alliance is auditioning student acts for it’s annual performance of cultureSHOCK, a showcase of talented Asian American performing artists. This year’s theme is exposure.
This year, we’d like to feature more student acts. Please come prepared with a 2-5 minute preview of whatever you think is best for our show. cultureSHOCK prides itself on a medley of diverse and interesting acts. In previous years we’ve had everything from spoken word, slam poetry, power ballads, cello/electric violin-rock, stand-up comedy, hip hop, interpretive dance, theatre… Rather than draw all our talent from independent groups across the nation, we’d LOVE to tap into Columbia’s fresh, innovative and amazing talent and bring YOU to the stage!
We’re giving you almost a full month to choreograph, rehearse, write, sing, play, and practice and present us with what you can do! Come as a solo singer, a dance troupe of fifteen, whatever. Show us what you got, and then get the chance to show off to the Columbia community at large. cultureSHOCKwill be on Friday, April 18th, 2008.
To sign-up for an audition, e-mail cs.exposure@gmail.com by Wednesday, 2/20 with your name(s), school and years, contact info, a description of your act, and any equipment you need/are bringing, along with the times you will be available to audition. We will be auditioning people on February 23rd, Saturday, from 4:30pm to 8:00pm in Lerner 477!.
Best of luck! We hope to see you there!

Do you want to get more involved? The Columbia University Asian American Alliance is looking for more hands on deck for a variety of initiatives for the second semester. Whether you’re Asian American or not, as long as you’re interested in helping out with planning giant parties, student conferences, political rallies, community service initiatives, variety & fashion shows, film festivals, or ethnic studies programs, AAA has a whole variety of activities and interests for anyone to get involved.
This will be a FREE BUFFET DINNER in an informal, laid back mixer format where AAA committees including Service, Political, and cultureSHOCK (our annual 700-person variety show) committees will be setting up tables for people to freely roam around and sign up! From parties to protests, from the classroom to YouTube, from performing arts to workshops, from identity issues to Saturday night issues, from students to alumni… Come to our subcommittee mixer & free buffet dinner on:
*Wednesday, January 30th, 8-9PM; Lerner Party Space.*
============================
This will be an open forum for anyone to come, eat, drink, and float around the variety of committees and activities AAA has set up tables for. This is also your chance to meet fellow members on AAA and how you can make a difference on campus.
