This qualitative study used a semi-structured interview to explore 3 fathers' perspectives regarding the meaning of their child's participation on a sled hockey team. Core constructs from the contemporary paradigm of occupational therapy were used as a framework for this study. Participants were recruited from a sled hockey team for children with various mobility impairments in Western New York. The coding process yielded 5 themes from the participants' statements. These themes addressed each child's ability to overcome obstacles and challenges associated with disability, how the child became involved in sled hockey, the influence sled hockey participation has had on the child, how sled hockey has influenced the father/son relationship, and the support the child receives while participating in the sport.Jason excels in spelling and reading, as well as trivia game shows, where he often surprises his father with his knowledge.
