Overview

The Organization of Pakistani Students is a student group open to all Columbia University undergraduate & graduate students, staff, and faculty. They seek to bring together those members ofthe Columbia & Barnard community that share thier interest in the social, cultural, and political milieu of Pakistan and Central & South Asia. The club was founded over a decade ago with hopes of fostering understanding and diversity at our campus - and still strives to achieve that vision today.

The OPS offers a wide variety of activities that can range from recreational (ping-pong and cricket tournaments), political (speakers, community service, and films), religious (Ramadan iftars and Eid Dinners), and festive (Hangama, picnics, and parties), with the intent of providing students with a multitude of activities to represent the diverse opinions and composition of their community.

Students of Pakistani heritage have been a part of the Columbia University community since Pakistan's independence. Columbia was the site of one of the first formal Pakistani student associations in the United States and over the past five decades, multiple organizations representing Pakistani students have been a vibrant part of campus life. The OPS, established in 1992, is a descendent of those organizations and is deeply rooted in their rich history.
